Andrea Kimi Antonelli. It’s a name that the F1
media want you to know and remember. Currently racing in the Formula 2
championship the rising star is commonly referred to as Kimi Antonelli. And no,
there is no link to 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen in this case. Though if
he has even an ounce of the natural speed of Ferrari’s last world champion then
this Kimi will be in F1 before long.

He’s been billed as the next Max Verstappen and
even touted to be a possible Mercedes driver in 2025. And this isn’t just a
rumour floating around the paddock either. Toto Wolff, he off Mercedes boss
duties, has publicly stated that Lewis Hamilton was not offered a longer-term
contract because Wolff did not want to lose out on the possibility of signing
Antonelli. This is an awful amount of pressure to place on a driver as young as
Antonelli. Although he seems to be well grounded the pressure and the attention
must be influencing him.

What makes Antonelli so special that just about
everyone is keeping an eye on him? In his debut full season in 2022, he
clinched the championship title, and he didn’t stop there. He continued his
winning streak by claiming top honours in both the ADAC F4 series and the FIA
Motorsport Games Formula 4 Cup in the same year.

Building on his successes, he
dominated the Formula Regional Middle East and European Championships in 2023,
securing victories in both competitions. Now, the talented Italian driver is
poised to make his mark in the F2 series with PREMA Racing.

After the announcement of Lewis
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari Toto Wolff said that there was now an opportunity to
be bold. Is Antonelli the bold move he was hinting at?
