IN a significant move aimed at bolstering employment opportunities for youth in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM), the executive mayor, Councillor Gary van Niekerk, in collaboration with Eastern Cape premier, Oscar Lubabalo Mabuyane, has embraced the investment of Teleperformance, a renowned international call centre company.
The initiative, which marks Teleperformance’s expansion into Gqeberha, holds the promise of generating a considerable number of job opportunities for the region’s unemployed youth. With a vision to address the pressing issue of youth unemployment, Teleperformance aims at employing approximately 500 young individuals, while also committing to offering valuable learnerships and workplace-readiness programmes.
Teleperformance, headquartered in Cape Town, brings its global expertise and resources to the forefront of the NMBM’s economic landscape. The decision to establish a branch within the municipality not only underscores the company’s commitment to social responsibility, but also aligns with the broader developmental goals of the region.
Van Niekerk expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasising its potential to generate socioeconomic growth and empowerment within the community.
“The investment from Teleperformance signifies a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to address unemployment, particularly among our youth,” he said.
“We welcome Teleperformance to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, and look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will benefit both our local economy and our young workforce.”
Mabuyane echoed Van Niekerk’s sentiments, emphasising the importance of private-sector partnerships in driving inclusive economic development.
“The investment by Teleperformance aligns perfectly with our provincial government’s agenda to foster job creation and skills development. We commend Teleperformance for their commitment to empowering our youth and contributing to the socioeconomic advancement of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality,” he said.
