Forresters FC win PEEFA Easter Tourney

KWADWESI-based team, Forresters FC, claimed a 1–0 victory over Real Aces during the Port Elizabeth East Football Association’s (PEEFA) Easter Tournament finals at Veeplaas Turf Stadium on Easter Monday.

In the first semi-final, Real Aces who are fighting relegation, managed to overcome a tough Peace Lovers 5–3 on penalties, after their 1–1 regulation time score. Forresters also proved critics wrong by eliminating Real Lions 2–1 during their semi-final.

Apparently it was a game of two equal halves. Fans were entertained from start to finish at the match. Eventually, the KwaDwesi side secured a hard-fought 1–0 triumph to be the PEEFA Easter 2024 champions.

Forresters claimed the winners’ prize of R4 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. Aces received R2 000 and silver medals. The losing semi-finalists, Lions and Lovers, got a prize of R750 each.

PEEFA president, Luyanda Ncwadi, said that his local football association did not have a sponsorship to run their Easter Tournament.

“I am very happy our teams heeded our call when we requested them to pay joining fees for this event. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the teams that had made this event a success.

“I would like to thank the match officials, our local organising committee, local executive committee, and fans for making our tournament a resounding success. It was a hassle-free event,” said Ncwadi.

Glenville Celtic FC is NAFA Easter Soccer Festival cup winners

THE club that has produced national players, Glenville Celtic AFC, lifted the Northern Areas Football Association (NAFA) Easter Soccer Festival Cup by defeating Windvogel All Stars 3–1 in a penalty shootout at Gelvan Track Stadium on Easter Monday.

Playing in front of an ecstatic crowd in an electric atmosphere, both sides started the game with enthusiasm in a fully-packed stadium.

In the losers’ finals, Helenvale United defeated Bloem Stars 4–2. In the Women’s semi-final, Park United advanced to the final by beating Saints 4–3 on penalties, following a goalless full-time draw.

In other semi-finals, Golden Stars won 6–5 in sudden death over Hotspurs FC, as their game ended in goalless draw. In the final, Park United supporters saw their side outplay Golden Stars 4–0 in a one-way traffic affair.

The winners went home with R25 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals.

Real Madrid FC win WAFA Easter Tournament trophy

SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Hollywood Bets Regional League campaigners Real Madrid FC were crowned Walmer Football Association (WAFA) Easter Tournament Trophy champions, as they defeated Golden Heroes 1–0 during their final at Walmer Community Fields on Easter Monday.

Madrid faced a tough Walmer Stars, and overcame them 4–2 on penalties, after their semi-final ended in a goalless full-time draw at Walmer Community Field 1.

At the same time, Golden Heroes booked themselves a place in the finals after they eliminated Young Cosmos 1–0 during their semi-final at Walmer Community Field 2 on Monday.

Madrid and Heroes squandered clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities in the final.

The goal-poacher, Buhle Mayambela Botha, finally scored a long-awaited goal that guided Madrid to take honours. Madrid walked away with R10 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals.

Tomorrow Stars earn historic win in MOFA Easter Tournament

FOLLOWING a long trophy drought, Tomorrow Stars lifted the Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) Easter Tournament Cup after their difficult 3–2 victory over the rejuvenated Motherwell Academy FC during their final at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Easter Monday.

Stars’ victory marked the end of more than a decade of season without trophies. To prove Stars were hungry for silverware, they eliminated the cup specialists, Valencia FC, 5–4 on penalties, after a 1–1 fulltime score in their semi-final at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Monday. Nceba Sizani scored Stars’ goal, while Madodomzi Ngcanga banged in Valencia FC goal.

Shining Stars FC were knocked out of the semi-final 1–0, after Motherwell Academy FC marksman, Liyema Zamisa, scored in the final minutes of their semi-final at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Monday.

Playing their final in the pouring rain, Stars quickly scored two goals courtesy of Sizani and Zozo Scout in the first half. Zamisa scored Academy’s opening goal that lifted the spirit of his side.

Scout increased his goal tally to two, as Stars led 3–1. Zamisa scored Academy’s last goal, just before the referee blew the final whistle.

Stars scooped the prize of R16 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals.

Special awards were as follows:

  • Goalkeeper of the tournament: Siyambonga Ntiyoyo Ntonga (Tomorrow Stars)
  • Player of the tournament: Liyema Zamisa (Motherwell Academy)
  • Coach of the tournament: Zolile Scout (Tomorrow Stars)
