SAPS Despatch are investigating a case of reckless or negligent driving and are appealing to members of the community who may have witnessed a hit-and-run accident, or who may have information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on Monday, 2 March 2026, at approximately 19:30, a man was assisting his friend to change a tyre on the R75 road behind Despatch when he was struck by an unknown white VW Polo.
The driver allegedly fled the scene in the direction of Kariega without stopping.
Janse Van Rensburg added that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident, or who may have information regarding the white VW Polo involved, to contact the investigating officer.
