GQEBERHA – Hoërskool Framesby will fly the flag for Gqeberha when they take on some of South Africa’s top rugby schools at the renowned Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival next month.
The Bay school has earned a coveted spot amongst 12 elite first XV teams competing at the 17th annual tournament, widely regarded as one of the country’s premier schoolboy rugby showcases.
Taking place over the Easter weekend, between 2 until the 6 April at Kearsney College in KwaZulu-Natal, the festival promises three days of thrilling rugby action, with Framesby set to face stiff competition from schools across four provinces and neighbouring Zimbabwe.
“This is a tremendous honour for our school and the entire Gqeberha rugby community,” said a Framesby spokesperson. “The festival attracts the cream of South African school rugby, so it’s fantastic recognition of the standard we’ve achieved.”
The Bay side will kick off their campaign on Thursday, 2 April, against Westville Boys’ High at 10:40, before taking on Glenwood High School on Saturday and Hoërskool Transvalia on the final day.
Framesby will be up against formidable opposition, including traditional rugby powerhouses Durban High School, Westville Boys’ High, and hosts Kearsney College, alongside a strong contingent from Gauteng featuring newcomers Hoërskool Zwartkop and Helpmekaar Kollege.
The festival has expanded beyond the traditional boys’ competition, with four U16 girls’ teams featuring in lunchtime fixtures and 12 primary schools competing on an adjacent field.
For local supporters unable to make the journey to KwaZulu-Natal, all matches will be live-streamed on the SuperSport Schools app, with fixtures, results and match reports available on the Kearsney College website.
The tournament runs from Thursday, 2 April through to Monday, 6 April, with matches beginning at 08:00 each day and concluding with a closing ceremony on the final day.
