The victims were 28-year-old Mari Hoon and her 25-year-old fiancé, Jean Vosloo.
Mnyani explained that Pretorius showed no genuine remorse and seemed more concerned with his own situation than recognisng the devastating effects on the victims’ families.
She observed that the tragedy had permanently altered the families’ lives.
The court determined that Pretorius had disregarded safety requirements and ignored warnings regarding the defective gas installation, thereby endangering his guests.
Pretorius has been given permission to appeal both his conviction and sentence.
