GQEBERHA – A case of culpable homicide was opened by SAPS Algoa Park after a Cillié Hoërskool learner was fatally struck by a vehicle on the N2 near Sidwell yesterday, 27 January 2026.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, preliminary information indicates that SAPS Algoa Park responded to a complaint on the N2 near the Commercial Road turn-off.
“The deceased was a 16-year-old boy who was dressed in his school uniform and was a pedestrian at the time of the accident at approximately 08:00.”
The school confirmed that the learner who was struck was from their institution. In a statement shared yesterday, the school said: “We take note of the accident that took place this morning. The parents involved have already been notified.”
Janse van Rensburg concluded: “The driver of a silver VW Polo has stopped and the investigation is ongoing.”
