The N2 near the Wind Farm between Gqeberha and Jeffreys Bay has reopened following the containment of the wildfires, as authorities in both Nelson Mandela Bay and Kouga municipalities confirm that the fire situation has stabilised and no road closures are currently in place.

PE Express previously reported on widespread travel disruptions and road closures between Gqeberha and Jeffreys Bay due to uncontrolled veld fires and poor visibility.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has confirmed that the N2 near the Wind Farm area was reopened at 21:00 on Monday evening following the containment of the wildfire in the area.

According to the municipality, while the fire has been brought under control, the affected site remains smouldering. Fire and Emergency Services teams remain on site and are actively dampening the area to prevent flare-ups and to ensure ongoing safety.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Fire and Emergency Services, working in collaboration with the Fire Protection Association, remain fully deployed and continue to closely monitor the situation. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, as changing wind conditions could lead to renewed fire activity.

Nearby communities are advised to report any signs of smoke, flare-ups, or fire immediately. Fire-related emergencies can be reported to Fire and Emergency Services on 041 585 1555.

Meanwhile, Kouga Local Municipality has issued an update confirming that veld fires in its area have largely been brought under control and that no roads are currently closed.

The municipality stated that fires in St Francis Bay and along the Oyster Bay Road have been extinguished. In Humansdorp, the fire is approximately 90% contained, with active burning limited to previously affected areas. Firefighting operations are continuing as a precaution.

“At this stage, no roads are closed, and no further road closures are anticipated,” Kouga Municipality said.

All relevant personnel remain on standby in both municipalities, with authorities continuing to monitor conditions closely.
