IN a heart-warming display of community spirit, the Bloemendal community is coming together to host a mass clean-up at Greenville Primary School. The event, organised by the Bloemendal My Plek initiative, took place on Friday, May 3, and aimed at rejuvenating the school grounds and fostering a sense of pride among students and residents.

The clean-up initiative has garnered support from various schools and organisations, with a call for volunteers to join the effort. Organisers believe that a united approach can have a significant impact on the school’s environment, and the morale of its students. Given the challenges the school has faced in recent times, the event is seen as a beacon of hope and a step towards positive change.

“We’ve invited different schools and organisations to join us in making a positive impact on the school,” said the organisation’s Curtley Abrahams.

“With new leadership at Greenville Primary School committed to bringing change and hope, we are joining hands with them to support this transformation.”

Abrahams emphasised that this initiative is an opportunity not only to clean and revitalise the school’s physical space, but also to foster connections within the community.

Greenville Primary School has been going through a challenging period, but with the support of the community and new leadership dedicated to making a difference, there’s a renewed sense of optimism.

“This clean-up event is a tangible step toward creating a better environment for the learners and inspiring a sense of unity among residents,” she added.

Bloemendal My Plek is a community initiative started by a group of young entrepreneurs born and bred in Bloemendal.

“We have first-hand experience of the neglect and poverty experienced by members of our community. We strive to address socio-economic issues through three areas, community development, entrepreneurship, and environmental issues. Through our projects and events, we aim to change the narrative and give our community a picture of hope. In partnership with schools, churches, community, and businesses in the surrounding areas, we have hosted several events such as community cleaning projects, awareness campaigns and entrepreneurship networking,” Abrahams concluded.
