SAPS KwaZakhele arrested four suspects after a house robbery that was reported on Monday, 25 August in KwaZakhele.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said that according to preliminary reports, it is alleged that on the aforementioned date at approximately 21:20, the complainant and his girlfriend parked his motor vehicle in front of the house in Prichard Street, France suburb, KwaZakhele.

“While still seated in the vehicle an unknown suspect banged on a passenger window with a firearm, forcing them to unlock the doors and demanding mobile phones. The complainant was assaulted, and they were forced into the house,” she said.

Janse Van Rensburg added that a total of approximately five suspects ransacked the house and took a 43-inch plasma TV and clothing. The five suspects continued to the main house and forced the door open.

“The complainant used his licensed firearm and fired two shots to protect himself. The suspect then dropped the TV and fled in different directions, however two suspects were injured when the firearm was discharged and were arrested. The members also confiscated a silver 9mm pistol from one of the suspects. Both suspects were taken to hospital for treatment.”

She said that after SAPS KwaZakhele attended to the complaint and immediately followed up on information, they managed to arrest two more suspects with mobile phones that were taken during the robbery.

“The four suspects aged between 18 and 19 were arrested for house robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of suspected stolen property. The suspects will appear in the New Brighton magistrates’ court during the week,” she concluded.
