The two people who drowned on Sunday, May 19, at Pollock Beach in Summerstrand have been identified as Blessings Charumbira (26) and Nomphumelelo Malindisa (21). They were part of a group of five friends at the beach that afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said it is alleged that on approximately 15:00, five friends were at Pollock beach in Summerstrand.

“It is further alleged that three of the friends ran into the sea for a swim.
“At about 15:30 when their friends on the beach could not see them, they called for help,” she said.
Janse Van Rensburg added that approximately 19:20 Charumbira’s body was washed out and soon thereafter Malindisa’s body also washed up on the shore.
“The search for the third victim is continuing,” she stated.
“No foul play is suspected, and the investigation is continuing.”
