The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for storm surges from Wednesday, June 5, 00:00 to Thursday, June 6, 00:00.
“Storm surge is expected in places along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Buffalo City on Wednesday morning to Thursday morning resulting in coastal flooding due to an increased sea level of 0.2m above the highest astronomical high tide combined with already flooding rivers.”
The elevated sea level will impact estuaries, small harbors, ports, and beaches. Additionally, tides typically affect rivers well upstream of the coast, making this a significant hazard beyond just coastal areas.
