Eight people have been reported to have drowned in the recent floods in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro since Sunday, June 2.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on Sunday, June 2, severe storms and heavy rains battered and caused extreme damages in many areas of the metro in particular Kwanobuhle, Kariega, Walmer, Blue Horizon Bay and Kamesh.
“In Kwanobuhle the four deceased people were Alutha Brown (4), Ndumiso Booysen (41), Tamsanqa Plaatjies (62) and Thandixolo Jonas (46).
“Abronita Adams (18) drowned in Kamesh, while Clive Noah (72) from Kariega also died due to the excessive flooding.
“One person, Sicelo Lusipho (32) from Walmer location also lost his life,” she said.
She added that the body of the eight victims, a woman that went missing on Sunday, June 2 in the Rocklands area in Kabega Park, was found at about 13:00 this afternoon, June 4 by the K9 Search and Rescue and Diving Units in the Brak River in Rocklands.
The next of kin is yet to be informed.
Inquest dockets are opened in all the above drownings.
“Searches for people who have not yet been accounted for, are continuing by the SAPS K9 Search and Rescue and Diving Units.”
