It was a historic moment for bookworms at Khulile Primary School in Motherwell recently, when Isuzu Motors South Africa, in collaboration with Rally-to-Read, delivered four boxes filled with books.
“Our initiative seeks to improve literacy from early stages of learning,” said Isuzu Motors SA Gqeberha plant Corporate Communications Senior Manager, Sharne Woods. “With this partnership we would like to generate and empower the next generation of leaders.”
Rally-to-Read trainer, Luleka Sonjica, said their collaboration with Isuzu Motors promotes literacy at the early learning stages of the child, through providing teachers and learners access to quality resources and training.
“These are fiction books for the foundation phase. To ensure the sustainability of this project, we are going to train teachers whom we have provided with a laptop for the teaching programme,” said Sonjica. “We will have some workshops with the teachers once or twice a year. Our agreement with Isuzu is to involve the parents, learners, and teachers in the programme.”
Khulile Primary School Principal Linda Nonxuba thanked Isuzu Motors SA and Rally-to-Read for supplying her school with the reading books and the other resources.
“This donation of books will help our learners in many ways of learning. We will make sure that the project is sustained so that we generate the best learners in our school,” said Nonxuba.
