Since its adoption as an Association Project in 2010, Winter Knights, a grassroots initiative under the Round Table, has made significant strides in supporting the less fortunate during the harsh winter months.

This commendable endeavour sees participation from all Round Table clubs across Southern Africa, united in their commitment to this noble cause.

Winter Knights, proudly registered as a trademark, exemplifies the proactive and innovative spirit of the participating clubs. Over the years the project has evolved remarkably, with activities ranging from mall-based trolley collections and door-to-door initiatives, to tinned food drives, corporate sponsorships, and street corner sponsorships.

Initially conceived as an immersive experience for Tablers to endure a few hours of winter cold in light clothing, the project was aimed at raising awareness of the challenges faced by the less fortunate.

“The hope was to encourage community members to contribute blankets and clothing, which would then be utilised by Tablers and subsequently donated to deserving causes upon project completion,” said Round Table’s Cornel Strydom.

“This year, the collective efforts of three prominent Round Table clubs, PE West 142, Algoa 108, and Zwartkops 195, have been focused on gathering clothing, food, and blankets. Individuals interested in contributing can reach out via telephone or WhatsApp to arrange for donation collection. These donations will be diligently sorted and distributed on June 8, with plans in place for a city-wide distribution effort in Gqeberha from a designated truck, targeting the most vulnerable members of the community,” Strydom continued.

For those willing to extend their support, contact can be made by calling 082 758 1401, 082 460 2049, 079 083 7462, and 083 232 9919.

Additionally, drop-off points have been established in Newton Park, Summerstrand, and Circular Drive for convenient donation delivery.
