Eskom in the Eastern Cape is bracing for more possible electricity supply interruptions due a to level 5 weather warning that has been issued by the South African Weather Services (SAWS).

Damaging winds, disruptive snow and storm surges have been predicted. According to the energy company, inclement weather puts Eskom network at risk and can affect electricity supply, potentially leaving some customers with prolonged periods without electricity.

Recent adverse weather left a trail of disruptions on the electricity networks which led to Eskom not being able to access certain areas in the Easter Cape due to waterlogged terrain and muddy roads. The predicted extreme weather conditions for this coming weekend will put additional load to the already busy recovery operations that the Eskom teams are currently undertaking.

Eskom General Manager Mbulelo Yedwa said, “Eskom has committed more resources and is putting concerted effort to effecting restoration of electricity supply to affected customers. We urge our customers to be patient, follow the channels made available to log faults and continue to treat all electricity appliances as live during this period”.

Eskom customers are encouraged to download the MyEskom Customer App, which is available on the Store and Google Play Store or use the Alfred Chatbot on the Eskom website to log a fault.

The MyEskom Customer App and Alfred Chatbot allow users to log a fault instantaneously and immediately provides a reference number needed to track progress on the fault. Alternatively, customers can contact the Share Call number at 08600 37566 or email: EasternCape@eskom.co.za
