Blessing Nyatsanza, a Grade 10 Walmer High School learner, won the regional round of The IIE’s Varsity College’s annual National High Schools Quiz.

Nyatsanza will compete in the Grand Finale in Durban on Saturday, July 6, when the top eight learners from the regional rounds will battle it out to be the champion of this year’s quiz.

Alex Bains and Raylon Brouwer, both in Grade 11 from Westering High School, were placed second and third in the regional round.

The IIE’s Varsity College has hosted the National High Schools Quiz for the past nine years, and the IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay has won the quiz for two consecutive years.

Blessing is an intelligent and enthusiastic learner, determined to bring the title back to Nelson Mandela Bay.

“This regional round was fun, exhilarating, and extremely challenging. I am happy with my result and look forward to the grand finale in July. My strategy for the grand finale is to continue doing my research so that I am fully prepared,” he said.

The upcoming grand finale promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the brightest young minds from across the country. The national winner will walk away with a cash prize of R10 000 for themselves, R10 000 for their school, and R5 000 for their teacher or coach.

The first runner-up and their school will receive a cash prize to the value of R15 000, followed by the second runner-up and their school with R7 500 in cash prizes.
