THE National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is urging individuals to join their “Celebrate a Life” campaign as their sixth Offshore Rescue Craft (ORC) approaches completion.

The state-of-the-art vessel, set to be based in the Port of Port Elizabeth in Gqeberha, offers a unique opportunity to honour loved ones while supporting the NSRI’s lifesaving efforts.

The ORC, entirely constructed in South Africa, boasts a French design and cutting-edge features. It can accommodate six NSRI volunteer rescue crew members and up to 23 survivors, operating at high speeds in challenging sea conditions.

With a price tag of approximately R22 million, each ORC represents a significant investment in maritime safety.

NSRI CEO, Dr Cleeve Robertson, encourages individuals to participate in the campaign.

“For a donation of R1 000, you can add the name of a loved one to this rescue craft, making it a thoughtful and unique gift,” he said.

The contribution will support the operational costs and maintenance of the new rescue boat, directly impacting the NSRI’s rescue missions. To participate, visit the NSRI website’s “Celebrate a Life” page (www.nsri.org.za) to add a name to the vessel.

With sea trials to begin at the end of July, and the ORC expected to be on station in early September, time is of the essence.

Join the “Celebrate a Life” campaign and support the NSRI’s unwavering commitment to saving lives at sea.
