THE Cantando@Algoa choir is a community choir under the leadership of Gustel Agenbag. It is based in the Western suburbs and serves the greater Gqeberha area.
This choir is launching an initiative called Sing Praises/Sing Lof, in much the same format as the well-known BBC Songs of Praise, with the aim of promoting audience participation in hearty communal hymn singing, and breathing new life into traditional hymns.
The interdenominational programme will include some choral singing, but the focus will be on a substantial amount of communal singing with organ accompaniment.
Additional instruments, such as the trumpet and others, will add further flavour to well-known and beloved hymns sung in English and Afrikaans.
There will be no admission charge, but a donation at the doors will be appreciated to help cover costs.
The performance will be at the Lorraine Dutch Reformed Church in Marne Avenue in Lorraine on Sunday, July 28, at 15:00 until 16:00.
