IN an effort to forget their worries for a few hours, a group of friends in Gqeberha recently hosted a Netflix Bridgerton-inspired tea party at Hacklewood Inn, in Walmer.

The event was a lighthearted and humorous affair, with guests dressing up in their finest attire and composing a follow-up letter from “Whistledown” (a character from Bridgerton).

The letter, which was written in a playful and tongue-in-cheek tone, poked fun at the guests’ fashion choices and imagined a scenario where the ladies of the group were transported to a beautiful country house in a modern-day carriage (aka a Toyota or Corolla).

The tea party was a welcome respite from the crime and unemployment plaguing Gqeberha, and guests were able to let their hair down and have a good time.

“It was a breath of fresh air to learn that a disgruntled Lady Linz has become quite well versed in wedded games,” noted one guest, Debbie Barnardt.

The event was also marked by speculation about the upcoming presentation ball and who would be the diamond of the season. Of course, no Bridgerton-inspired tea party would be complete without a hint of romance and intrigue.

As guests sipped their tea and savoured delicious treats, they couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for the characters in their imagined scenario.

Would Lady Linz’s husband seek revenge? Would the bundle of joy be an heir or heiress? Only time (and Whistledown) would tell.
