Suspect arrested, stolen property, firearms recovered by Kariega K9 Unit after Rosedale robbery

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, commended the sterling efforts of the Kariega K9 members in speedily arresting a suspect and recovering two firearms (one gas pistol), as well as suspected stolen property taken during a house robbery in Kamesh on Monday, July 29, in Rosedale.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 04:15, the complainant was awake and in bed on Acacia Road in Rosedale, Kamesh, when she heard a loud noise outside.

Janse van Rensburg said that when she peeped through the window, she noticed approximately six men entering her yard.

“Her front door was kicked open.

“While she hid, her boyfriend was threatened and assaulted. Laptops, TV sets, and cell phones were taken,” Janse van Rensburg explained.

“Kariega K9 unit acted on information received and at about 14:15, a house on Kiva Street, in Kwanobuhle, was penetrated.

“An outbuilding was searched, and two TV sets, two laptops, two cell phones, and two firearms (a 7.365mm pistol and a Beretta 9mm firearm) and a gas pistol were confiscated,” she added,

She further added,” a 25-year-old suspect was detained on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen property.  

“The property was positively identified as the stolen property taken in the house robbery.”

“Investigations are continuing and detectives are probing his possible link to the house robbery. 

The suspect will appear in the Kwanobuhle magistrate court during the week,” she concluded.
