TWO mouthwatering clashes await school rugby fans on Women’s Day in Nelson Mandela Bay.
In Gqeberha it will be Framesby playing host to Nico Malan, when the visitors from Humansdorp are welcomed this week for the annual interschool clash between these rivals.
Die Brandwag will be at home in Kariega where they will face the Gqeberha visitors, Pearson, also on Friday.
There is an interesting match on Saturday in Kariega. Muir College will have home advantage against Daniel Pienaar.
The FNB Classic Clashes rugby match on Friday will be the highlight, but ther sports fixtures will also feature this week when Nico Malan visits Framesby.
There will be cross country and hockey today, and the hockey will continue tomorrow and Friday.
Tennis matches will be played tomorrow, and netball will join the hockey on Friday.
The rugby will start at 08:00 on Friday and all fixtures will be completed before the big one, the clash of the first rugby teams. Kickoff is at 14:30.
We saw some interesting matches this past weekend. Framesby lost to Marlow and will be even more determined to end their season on a high against Nico Malan.
Nico Malan had a confidence-boosting win over Punt, but it is going to be tough to beat Framesby in Gqeberha.
Pearson lost away, against Parel Vallei, but has a chance to end on a high against Die Brandwag.
Brandwag went down against Daniel Pienaar with a penalty in the last minute in a tremendously exciting Kariega Derby.
Grey High ended their season with a victory at home against Selborne College. Grey put the record straight after a surprise loss last year.
After the weekend’s matches most schools will turn their attention to Sevens rugby.
Eastern Province is stepping up the preparation for the national under-17 Sevens tournament which takes place later this year.
“The final trials will take place on the fields of Andrew Rabie in Gqeberha on Thursday, 22nd of August,” the secretary of EP High Schools, Neville Botha, said.
Botha requested the nominated players to make sure they report at Andrew Rabie at 12:00 on that very important day.
The secretary also released the EP u/15 squad for this year’s Iqhawe Week which will be held during the September holiday in Johannesburg.
Former provincial player Ashwell Stride has been named the coach of the group of 23 players.
