IN an innovative move, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has introduced cutting-edge Smart Enrolment Units (SEUs) at the Traffic Department in Motherwell, marking a first for the Eastern Cape region.

This innovative pilot project, implemented in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation, promises to revolutionise the way customers interact with the department, saving them time and money.

According to the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security, Councillor Stag Mitchell, the SEUs are a significant step forward in the municipality’s efforts to eradicate long queues and enhance customer experience.

“Residents will now be able to pay with debit cards, capture ID photos, and have their eyes tested in one go,” he explained. “This will drastically reduce the time needed for transactions, with the aim of completing each transaction within 15 minutes or less.”

The SEUs will also eliminate the need for customers to bring large amounts of cash and identity photos, making the process more convenient and efficient.

The Korsten and Kariega offices are next in line to receive the SEUs, as part of a broader rollout plan.

“While the current Live Enrolment Units require customers to navigate multiple queues, the SEUs will handle all necessary transactions for producing a driver’s licence card in one go,” said Neelesh Badasie of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), on the benefits of the SEUs.

This streamlined process will not only save customers time and money but also reduce costs for the traffic departments in terms of printing, time and consumables.

“We have worked hard to improve our services, and the introduction of these SEUs is a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence,” said Mitchell.
