Gqeberha man nabbed at home with R550 000 worth of drugs, released on bail

Brent Van Asperan (40) from Kabega Park was released on bail for R3 000 after he appeared at the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on August 13, for drug possession.

He was arrested on August 11, and will appear in court again on September 13.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, police operationalised based on information shared by Nelson Mandela Bay Crime Intelligence about a large amount of drugs that were kept and sold in a house on Masson Street, Kabega Park.

She said police applied for a search warrant, which was authorised, and proceeded to the mentioned house.

“On arrival, they were granted permission to enter, and upon searching, they found drugs, cannabis, and cannabis products,” she added.

Mawisa revealed that during the investigation, police recovered the following items with an estimated street value of R550 000, cannabis (19 kg), shrooms (605 grams), MDMA (63 grams), CBD tablets (42 tablets), DAB (13 envelopes), hash (5 balls), CBD oil (2 bottles), CBD Vapes (33 vapes), oil syringes (17 syringes), chocolate edibles (31 units) and dagga zolls (330 zolls).

She further added, “Police also recovered his licensed firearm, a 9mm Taurus with a magazine and ammunition, and two cellphones, which were seized for further investigation.”

“According to the information, it is believed that the suspect is a supplier around Gqeberha; however, the police investigation is continuing.”

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, has welcomed the arrest and confiscation of drugs and commended the team for addressing the root causes of crime and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
