Police have opened an inquest following the death of five people in a fire that gutted a family home during the early hours of Wednesday morning, August 28.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at about 00:30, SAPS Algoa Park responded to a complaint of a house burning on Jack Street, Missionvale.
She said that upon arrival, the house was already alight.
“After the blaze was doused, the bodies of two adults and three children were found. The deceased are Bettie Booysen (45), Luvano Croats (28), and the children, Trover Booysen (14), Roger Booysen (8), and Leajidra Booysen (7). The cause of the fire is suspected to be a burning candle,” she reported.
“No foul play is suspected, and an investigation is ongoing.”
