The spectacular entry of a meteorite into Earth’s atmosphere over the Eastern Cape has captured significant public interest in recent weeks. Its secrets will soon be revealed in a special event livestreamed by Rhodes University.
According to Rhodes University Communications and Marketing Manager, Christelle du Toit, researchers from the University of the Witwatersrand, Nelson Mandela University, and Rhodes University have worked around the clock to establish various facts about the meteorite, including the probable origin, size and trajectory, and speed as it entered Earth’s atmosphere, as well as the possible fall area.
She added: “The results of their high-adrenaline search for facts about the meteorite, believed to be the size of a car as it entered the atmosphere, will be revealed at a media conference on Tuesday, September 3, on the campus of Nelson Mandela University.”
The event will be live streamed by Rhodes University at 10:00.
