Now is the time to speed things up at the Fairview racetrack in Greenbushes!
The feature race at Friday’s meeting is the R175 000 Speedsters Stakes over 1 000m and it is going to be super-fast and furious.
Some classy sprinters will be lining up for this one – race seven of eight on the turf track. We can expect a fast time in this event.
Top trainer Gavin Smith has a wonderful record in the Speeders Stakes. He will be aiming at winning this race for the fourth consecutive year.
The Speedsters Stakes is one of the highlights at Fairview, in a month packed with seven meetings.
We already had our first meeting two days ago on the Poly surface.
The big one on this surface this month is the second leg of the East Cape Poly Challenge on the 27th.
Hopefully, we will see some more local equine stars stepping up to the plate this month after an absolutely brilliant performance by the champion filly Joy And Peace this past Friday.
Joy And Peace faced strong opposition and was a very impressive winner of the R150 000 Jockey Club Stakes over 2 000m.
The four-year-old Master of My Fate filly destroyed that strong opposition, winning by nearly three lengths, much to the delight of many members of the Halo Syndicate who were at the track to shout her home.
The Halo Syndicate owns Joy and Peace, in partnership with the Pine Lodge Stud, and the connections are enjoying a wonderful ride with this top performer.
Joy and Peace is having an incredible winning streak at Fairview. She has now won her last five starts for the stable of the East Cape champion trainer Alan Greeff stable.
Overall, she has won seven of her 15 races for a total prize money in excess of R700 000.
Joy and Peace is not stopping here. Racing fans countrywide are excited to see what the future plans are for her.
She is one of three Greeff-trained horses nominated to be crowned as the East Cape champion three-year old filly of last season.
The awards evening to honour the stars of last season will take place at Fairview on Friday evening after the day’s racing.
The three-year-old filly category will be hotly contested between Joy and Peace, Three Rocks, and Luna Halo.
The season was dominated by the Greeff and Smith horses. These two stables should pick up most of the awards.
The most prestigious award that the judging panel must decide on, is that of Horse of the Year.
Local racing expert, Henk Steenkamp, is the convenor of the judging panel. Nico Kritsiotis and Neil Pretorius are the other judges.
