Mount Road and Gelvandale police arrested three suspects and recovered stolen property that was taken in Newton Park on Monday, September 9.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 15:10, the complainant was in the shop when she opened the door for an alleged customer, and then a second person also entered the shop.

Janse van Rensburg reported that they both approached the complainant, pointed a firearm at her, and threatened her to open the cash register.

“The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and three laptops in a red-colored Toyota motor vehicle.”Soon after the robbery, police received information that was followed up immediately.”

“The getaway vehicle was spotted on Stanford Road, Korsten. The members forced the vehicle to stop, and during the search of the vehicle, they confiscated a gas gun and an undisclosed amount of cash that was taken during the robbery,” she explained.

She added: “Through investigation, they proceeded to a house on Stanford Road where they recovered the laptops.

“The vehicle was impounded, and three suspects aged between 41 and 45 years were arrested on charges of business robbery.”

She stated that there is an ongoing investigation, and detectives are probing the possible link to other robbery cases.

The suspects will appear in Gqeberha Magistrate Court tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11.
