PEEFA Kasi Delivery Tournament starts with a big bang

HUNDREDS of supporters braved the chilly weather conditions to rally behind their sides, when the Port Elizabeth East Football Association (PEEFA) Kasi Delivery Tournament started at Veeplaas Turf and KwaMagxaki Community Grounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Despite playing their hearts out, Hillside United went down 1–0 to Real Lions at Veeplaas Turf on Saturday. The hot favourites, Young Teenagers, registered their hard-fought 2–0 victory over Mighty Birds, while Real Aces shared a 2–2 draw with Peace Lovers at Veeplaas Turf on Saturday.

Mwalimu All Stars were held to a 3–3 draw by Forresters at Veeplaas Turf. Real Lions succumbed 1–0 to Golden Stars, with Hillside United restoring their dignity in their 2–1 victory over Mighty Birds at Veeplaas Turf on Saturday.

Mighty Warriors FC claimed a comfortable 2–0 triumph over United Eleven Brothers at KwaMagxaki Community Grounds on Saturday. Young Aces shared a 1–1 draw with United Stars during their battle at KwaMagxaki Community Grounds on Saturday.

Power Stars let their supporters down as they suffered a huge 4–0 defeat to Bay Tigers at KwaMagxaki Community Grounds on Saturday.

In the battle of the neighbours, United Brothers earned a hard-won 2–1 victory over Bay Land, with United Stars being overcome 1–0 by Mighty Warriors in their scintillating game at KwaMagxaki Community Grounds on Saturday.

Young Aces registered a commanding 5–1 victory against United Eleven Brothers at KwaMagxaki Community Grounds.

Royal Bucks lift Shining Stars Preseason Annual Tournament trophy

MOTHERWELL NU 11 Stadium was kept abuzz as Royal Bucks supporters saw their side lift the Shining Stars Pre-season Annual Tournament trophy on Saturday.

The tournament started with a round-robin stage and ended in a knockout stage in all divisions. Bucks’ road to success was not easy at all.

In their quarter-final, they beat Motherwell School of Excellence 1–0, while their counterparts, Young Ideas, defeated Bay Eagles on penalties in their quarter-final two weeks ago.

Bucks faced a seasoned Camper United that defeated them on penalties during their tough semi-finals at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium last Saturday. On their side, Ideas, which was known as AmaYanga-Yanga, eliminated the hosts Shining Stars 2–1 during their enthralling semi-finals at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium last Saturday. In the finals, Bucks defeated AmaYanga-Yanga 4–2 on penalties after their finals ended in a 1–1 full-time draw.

Bucks scooped the first prize of R5 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals, while AmaYanga-Yanga went home with a consolation prize of R3 000 and silver medals.

The losing semi-finalists, Shining Stars and Camper United, received R1 000 each. The junior teams’ winners received a floating trophy and gold medals each, while the runners-up settled for silver medals.

“On behalf of the Shining Stars family, we would like to thank each and every one of you for making sure that our tournament becomes a success,” said Shining Stars tournament director Mfundo Mxokozeli.

“Football makes us friends, as it draws us to the playing fields. Furthermore, we as Shining Stars would also like to express our special thanks to Sherwood Express Fuel Station and Mzaza Funeral Directors for sponsoring our tournament.”
