Racing fans can look forward to two top-class races at the Fairview track in Greenbushes over the next two weeks.

This coming Friday the R175 000 Friendly City Stakes over 1 800m tops the bill. There are exciting racehorses in the field, and the race should be a humdinger.

Some of the biggest Nelson Mandela Racing equine stars of recent times are among the winners of the Friendly City Stakes.

The other big race still to be run this month is the second leg of the East Cape Poly Challenge. This race over 1 400m will take place at the meeting on the 27th.

There is some great news regarding this race, about an attempt at the bonus of R250 000 for the connections of a horse which wins all three legs of the Challenge.

The Western Cape horse King Regent won the first leg, and trainer Glen Kotzen has decided to nominate his charge to run in the second leg.

King Regent will face some strong opposition but has a definite chance of securing the bonus (the third and last leg is on October 18).

We have already seen brilliant performances of some Fairview horses since the start of the season at the beginning of last month.

Cherry Ano, Joy and Peace, and Cruise Control were impressive, but the work of two 4Racing ladies away from the track also had the tongues wagging.

The senior manager of Racing Operations (Eastern Cape), Gail Rieder, and the Events Co-ordinating Manager at Fairview, Marilyn Smith, came in for a lot of praise after the recent annual Awards Evening.

After hosting the regular Friday afternoon meeting at Fairview, there was a remarkable transformation of the same venue for the awards evening, which started a few hours after the last race.

Rieder and Smith, the dynamic duo behind this, seamlessly transformed the racecourse venue into a glamorous setting in record time.

After the last race, the venue quickly shifted from a vibrant racing atmosphere to a refined, celebratory space, creating an atmosphere of sophistication and festivity. The smooth transition left the guests, many of whom also attended the race meeting, awestruck.

The dedication of the Fairview team, especially Rieder and Smith, did not go unnoticed, as the awards evening proceeded without a hitch, filled with recognition and celebration.

The meticulous changeover was a testament to the exceptional skills and teamwork of Rieder and Smith. Fairview is in safe hands!

In congratulating the winners, the CEO of 4Racing, Fundi Sithebe, said 4Racing is committed to celebrating excellence within the horse racing community.

“The East Cape Awards serves as a tribute to the passion and dedication shared by all involved in this thrilling sport.

“Congratulations to the winners and nominees, whose contributions have further enhanced the framework of racing in Gqeberha.”
