MEMBER of the Mayoral Committee for Infrastructure, Engineering, Electricity and Energy in Nelson Mandela Bay, Masixole Zinto, has announced that during the first three months of 2018 the Metro has repaired more than 5 000 water leaks.

In a statement Zinto said the city is committed to delivering quality basic services.

“It is for this reason the administration has focused on maintaining and repairing aging infrastructure.”

He said the areas that have been largely impacted by water leaks in the metro were mainly Uitenhage, Despatch, Newton Park, Sydenham, Motherwell and New Brighton.

“Our efforts to save water have been supported by both internal plumbing teams and appointed contractors. The vigilance of residents through increased reporting of leaks has resulted in this improvement in turnaround time,” Zinto said.

He applauded the residents for their efforts in this regard, adding that through water-saving campaigns, the municipality continues to emphasise the need for communities to play their role in using water sparingly and reporting water leaks timeously.

All water leaks can be reported to 0800 205 050. – REPORTER
