PORT Elizabeth’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society are preparing to celebrate 85 years of bringing the best of community theatre to local audiences with yet another dazzling revue, Broadway and Beyond, at the Savoy Theatre.
To make things even more special, the show that will mark this milestone is also, coincidentally, their 150th production.
Patrons can look forward to a selection of 30 songs in a jam-packed programme that will keep audiences singing along.
The first half will consist of songs from past shows, such as Oklahoma, Annie and Chicago, while the second act will provide a touch of much-loved favourites from newer musicals, such as School of Rock, Waitress: The Musical and Bonnie and Clyde, alongside classics, like The Rocky Horror Show and Peter Pan.
Director Rose Cowpar said, “I love the revue style format. There’s something for everyone and it’s a great opportunity to showcase the amazing talent in the cast, with everyone having their own moment to shine.”
Angela Freer, last seen as Princess Snowdrop in last year’s pantomime, is the vocal director. The cast will see favourites, like Bennie Gerber and Khuselo Gqiba, take to the stage alongside fabulous newcomers and previous ensemble members to show that there is no shortage of talent in the Bay.
Broadway and Beyond will run at the Savoy Theatre from tonight to May 5 with evening shows nightly from Wednesday to Saturday at 19:30 and matinée performances at 14:00 this Saturday and Sunday and on May 5.
The show on May 3 will be held in support of fundrasing for the Port Elizabeth Down Syndrome Association (PEDSA).
Tickets at R100 are available at Computicket. For more info contact Rose Cowpar on 072 906 1977.
