NELSON Mandela University (NMU) will be watching one of their own celebrate success when Micaela Scholtz, who graduated with a Btech in graphic design and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in the same field, launches Vrouw magazine at the Bird Street Gallery tonight.
Scholtz created the magazine as part of her Btech project and it is also the start of an entrepreneurship.
“Vrouw magazine is all about empowering, inspiring and celebrating women. We have found that sharing original stories of women creates a vast sense of community among them.
“It makes them feel connected, powerful and in a sense, worthy of all that they are. This deserves to be celebrated and revealed,” she said. “This magazine was put together with the input of many wonderful women, such as supervisor Inge Economou and co-supervisor Sandy Coffey.”
The first volume of the publication focuses on exploring vulnerability.
“Often we as women feel that being vulnerable marks us as being weak.
“The first issue of Vrouw goes to show how strong women are despite the things that makes us vulnerable, despite what we struggle with on a daily basis.”
The magazine will be launched at the Nelson Mandela University Bird Street Gallery on May 10 at 18:00.
