DIEHARD cycling fans, families and anyone looking to have a relaxing Saturday can gather at the Vistarus Mission Station in Sydenham on Saturday when they host two exciting and challenging events.

Vistarus Mission Station was founded in 1998 by Kobus and Lynette Jacobs and provides shelter to homeless and needy families, restoring their dignity by empowering them with life skills and creating job opportunities for them.

The centre also incorporates a recycling programme, a plastic extrusion plant and a woodwork centre.

They will be hosting the events for the second time this year in an effort to remind people who and where they are and what they do. Residents who own a bicycle and consider themselves up to the challenge are invited to participate in the 150km Cycle Challenge that will set off at 06:00.

It is a challenging race for beginners and will include part of the Ironman route. Registration will start at 05:00.

Those who don’t feel up to the task can also participate in the 5km fun run which will take place from 08:00.

Families are welcome to join in the fun as there will be jumping castles, face painting and hotdog sales, as well as an open-air movie later that evening.

All are welcome.

Entry to both races is simply a donation made to the centre.

Both events will start and end at the Vistarus Mission Station.
