EIGHT schools who were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition, each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000.
General repairs and improved security are some of the upgrades for which the school principals have suggested they will use their Cashbuild vouchers.
Cebelihle Primary School, Emafini Primary School and Spencer Mabija Primary School were three of the eight schools that received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000.
Cebelihle Primary School indicated they would use the money to upgrade security for their computer room, which has been a target for theft and vandalism.
Emafini Primary School principal MC Kay was humbled at the announcement of the school being selected as one of the winners.
“Over a short time, our school has grown from 800 learners to 1 260 and we have been blessed with wonderful new teachers. Because of the growth, we will be using the voucher to extend and pave the area where the children assemble and play,” Kay said.
The principal of Spencer Mabija Primary School was also delighted at the news and said, “Our multipurpose classroom unfortunately burnt down and we have been trying to raise money to fix it as we use it for many things, such as exams, meetings and group work. We can now start on repairing this much-loved room.”
At the official refurbished Cashbuild store opening ceremony on May 9, the building material vouchers totalling R120 000 were handed out to the eight winning schools.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild.
This artwork is displayed at the ceremony and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.
The artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named.
Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively.
The Manager’s Choice Award was judged and presented to a learner from Kleinskool Primary School who was the overall winner of the artwork competition.
This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the refurbished store.
The schools that benefitted from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations were Emafini Primary School, Joe Slovo Primary School, Sapphire Road Primary School, Spencer Primary School, Sivuyiseni Primary School, Cebelihle Primary School, Booysen Park Primary School and Kleinskool Primary School.
