ANTICIPATION is in the air as Nelson Mandela Bay artists gear up for the Opera at South concert that will take place in the Nelson Mandela University South Campus Auditorium on June 10 at 15:00.
Hosted by talented musician and performer Akhona Nkumanda, the world-class opera showcase is one of the few local music projects that includes both formally and informally trained classical talent.
It is aimed at exposing talent and enriching the classical culture of Nelson Mandela Bay. It will consist of 14 light, famous opera arias performed by trained, well-known artists from the Bay.
Nkumanda, who will produce the show and perform in it, joined the world-renowned Nelson Mandela University Choir in 2010 while studying music and played the lead role as Nelson Mandela in I am an African in 2014 at Diaz Primary School.
He served as the director and conductor of various groups, including the Eastern Cape Youth Choir.
He just returned from Qatar where he taught music at an international school and is back to lend his musical expertise
to Opera at South.
Solo artists,(bass-baritone), Liske Hemingway (soprano), Lucretia Sikwebu (mezzo-soprano) and Lunga Lutywantsi (tenor) will be joined by Isabella Scheepers and the powerful 16-member Nelson Mandela Chorus under the baton of Nkosinathi Khalipha on stage at the concert.Tickets are R80 per adult and R50 per student and pensioner.
