A NEW sport frenzy has arrived in Port Elizabeth. Snookball, as the name suggests, is a game of snooker/pool played on a turf with (soccer) balls and is exclusive to the Fairview Action Arena.
Snookball, also known as footpool, is played by two players a side. The game works the same way as the traditional version of the game, but players use their feet to get the balls in the “pocket”.
The game is played without a referee and the same rules for pool apply. Playing time is approximately 10-20 minutes.
The pitch is 6x4m and consists of synthetic grass on which any sports footwear can be worn.
The Fairview Action Arena, which focuses on social and corporate five-a-side soccer leagues and tournaments has brought snookball to Port Elizabeth as part of their aim to promote an active lifestyle, especially among the city’s youth.
Matthew Potgieter, Fairview Action Arena Sports Director, said, “Our five-a-side league games are very popular and snookball is being offered to those who want to try something different while the soccer games are being played.
“We are planning on having snookball tournaments and we want to encourage everyone, especially women, to join in this fun sport.”
The opening hours for snookball games are from 10:00 to 22:00 on Mondays to Sundays.
