WALMER Township-based soccer team, Real Madrid FC, expressed their heartfelt thanks to their long-time sponsor for his unwavering support since their club’s inception.

Madrid’s chairperson and head coach, Rabi Gongqa, revealed to PE Express that their club had neither a ball nor kit when they founded it in 2003. Rabi said one of the employees from Walmer Township introduced him to his boss, Dieter Rohrich.

Following a discussion about Madrid’s situation, Rohrich urged the management to draft their proposal and submit it to him.

Gongqa stated that since 2004, Rohrich had supported Real Madrid FC.

“Dieter came to our rescue because he is somebody who is empathetic. He bought kit and balls for our junior teams and our senior team.

“His contribution to the club motivated our teams,” he said.

“Every year he put us on his budget. He came along with his son, Christopher, to watch our senior team during our league games.

“Consequently, we won the SAFA NMB SAB Regional League promotional play-offs in 2005 owing to Mr Rohrich’s support.

“We were very worried when we learnt that he was not feeling well, but fortunately he has fully recovered.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Mr Rohrich for being so supportive to our club.

“He supported us through thick and thin. His family also played a major role in the club.

“Had it not been for Mr Rohrich’s unwavering support, the club would not be where it is now,” said Gongqa.
