A GROUP of enthusiastic ballerinas from the Toynbee Ballet Academy in the northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay are on a mission to stage their first-ever show at the end of the year.
They are currently trying to raise the funds to host the show, as well as to participate in a dance festival during August and September.
According to Ariana Govin, a ballet teacher and mentor, the funds will assist the girls in gaining entry to the festivals, as well as the fees for costumes and the various attire required to participate.
“Many of the dedicated young ladies travel far distances to attend daily dance classes in preparation for the upcoming events the academy has planned.
“Managing their time during the exam period, braving cold weather and being exposed to harsh circumstances have proven that they are committed to an art which is extremely challenging and competitive.
“Ballet in a community such as ours is a very hard art to keep going because it’s so expensive.
“The northern areas produce so much hidden talent that isn’t exposed due to a lack of funding and support,” Govin said.
