CMR Port Elizabeth, a registered child protection agency, went all out for Child Protection Week this year.
The campaign was initiated in 1997 to raise awareness about the need for communities to protect children against abuse, neglect, exploitation and other forms of violence.
This year’s theme was “Let Us All Protect Children to Move South Africa Forward”.
CMR PE have been rendering services in Port Elizabeth since 1944. They are inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela when he said, “Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth who care for and protect our people.”
CMR took their programmes directly to seven primary schools to empower young children, reaching a total of 1 886 children from Grade 1 to 3.
The CMR’s protective behaviours’ programme (SAM) aims to prevent sexual abuse by creating awareness through a drama or puppet show that enables children to deal with any risky or abusive situations in their lives.
