THE spirit of giving to those less fortunate bares much fruit and it is with this in mind that the United Congregation Church (UCC) in Booysen’s Park decided to teach their children’s unit about the gift of giving recently.

“So often, as adults of the church, we create initiatives that require us to donate to various members of the community.

“This time we thought it was time to teach our children about the practice of sharing and giving,” said Anne Graaff, who founded the Children Reaching Out to Children breakfast outreach initiative.

The UCC Children’s Unit recently collected various food items and neatly packaged them in the form of food parcels for their breakfast outreach.

“Some of the children in the community are fed through feeding schemes at school.

“As it is now the school holidays, they don’t get the meals they would often get during the day,” continued Graaff.

The children’s unit of Booysens Park handed out food parcels to the areas of Marikana and Vastrap, as well as Extensions 11 and 12, reaching approximately 95 children in these areas.

The unit received an overwhelming amount of support from the members of the congregation and a generous donation from Shoprite in Kenako Mall.

The UCC is looking forward to ensuring that this will be an annual initiative where the children will continue to learn and receive the fruits of sharing with those who are less fortunate.

“We want to teach our children that even if you can’t do it all; you can do something that will make a difference.” concluded Graaff.
