Arthur Müller’s Christmas decorations.

FESTIVE cheer is sure to reach new heights when local Christmas enthusiasts gather for the annual Arthur’s Christmas Wonderland.

The event has been a highlight on the calendar every year since the man behind the scenes, Arthur Müller, started it in 2001.

Though Arthur prides himself on treating his fellow Christmas decor fanatics to something new every year, this time he took it to a new level.

Building on the excitement caused by last year’s gingerbread house competition, bakers have been invited to compete in a Christmas cupcake competition.

Entry is free. Bakers simply need to create and decorate 12 completely edible cupcakes, nine of which will be donated to ACVV Khayalethu Youth Centre.

Mr PE uberMANn 2018, Ofentse Boloko, also added to the fun this past Saturday when he was the guest of honour at the launch of Arthur’s Christmas Wonderland 2018.

Arthur also creates a new tree from scratch every year, according to the theme. He chose an African theme this year and named the tree The African Bonanza.

“This year, my favourite tree is The African Bonanza. I don’t know why; this one just stole my heart. I think it’s my best work ever,” he said.

It’s one of the only trees in the house with coloured lights and boasts decorations from Oudshoorn, Nieu-Bethesda and other places, as well as some that were made by Arthur himself. The stunning tree topper is something Arthur calls “the African Star.”

The festive season spirit really took Arthur by storm this time and the next two weekends are not to be missed.

Children are encouraged to bring along their letters to be placed in Santa’s letterbox.

For more than 10 years, the proceeds of Arthur’s Christmas Wonderland have been donated to a local charity. Save-A-Pet, the Animal Anti-Cruelty League and Hannah’s Arms are just a few that have been on the receiving end of Port Elizabeth residents’ generosity and now it is ACVV Khayalethu Youth Centre’s turn.

Patrons who pop in for a look at the outstanding displays are encouraged to bring along donations of toys, toiletries and stationery for the boys of ACVV Khayalethu Youth Centre.
