NELSON Mandela Bay motorists are warned to avoid paying their traffic fines through third parties, as it could land them in sticky situations if they are caught at roadblocks.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality director of traffic and licensing, Warren Prins, said the municipality never appointed any company to collect revenue from traffic fines on its behalf and advised motorists that they would be held fully accountable for the payment of their fines.
Illegitimate transactions and discounts will not be recognised.
According to Prins, representatives from these rogue companies are so brazen that he has received reports regarding companies allegedly redirecting residents from the Traffic Department parking lot to their premises.
“We understand that promises of discounts and other forms of amnesty are dangled before their noses. Please do not be fooled by these rogue operations.
“A discount of up to 30% will anyway be considered when you approach our prosecutor at the Municipal Traffic Court at our Sidwell offices,” Prins said.
Traffic fines can also be paid via the municipal website at www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za or in the municipal bank account via banks.
