THE Salem Moravian Church congregation in Schauderville will celebrate their 120th year of existence of their first church in Mount Road, where it was known as Moravian Hope, before the Group Areas Act forced the congregation to be relocated to Highfield Road in Schauderville.

This church building in Highfield Road is also 70 years old this year. The Salem Festival Committee said the launch of the festivities, which continue until November, starts with a festival torch relay, on Sunday, March 10 at 08:00 by individual runners, which symbolises the historic move of the congregation.

This will be followed by a congregational procession at approximately 09:00 from the corner of Cottrell Street and Highfield Road up to the Salem Moravian Church.

The congregation will have a worship service at 10:30 at the church premises. For more info contact Stan Uithaler on 072 895 5474. – REPORTER
