AFRUSTRATED resident from New Brighton is demanding answers from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality after spending days without access to electricity. The issue is not related to load-shedding currently implemented by Eskom.
The resident claims that the problem is a result of illegal tampering with electricity wires, which is rife in the New Brighton area.
According to another resident, both of whom wish to remain anonymous, they have reported the problem for years to their local ward councillor, Dolly Buti, without any positive outcome.
“Every time we request a meeting, she always says that the issue is being noted and that she will attend to it. This year is by far the worst.”
The resident said that she watched her area gradually deteriorating due to the expansion of the informal settlement, Chris Hani.
