THE Pelfa Old Buck Gin legends league kicked off last Wednesday. The big question is, will Callies be able to defend their league title?

The league has increased by two teams, after Mahle Old Grey and Priory Shamrocks were given permission to field a second team each. Callies made their intentions very clear to defend their title in their first game of the season. They overcame a spirited Fairview Rovers 2-0 at St Albans.

The first Callies goal was a header, in the 25th minute, by Kieron “Flash” August, after a cross from Razeen Davids.

Dillon Germishuys sealed the game for Callies with 15 minutes to go, with a through ball from Moenier Safedien.

PE City played out a 1-1 draw with Malabar Legends. Siven Naidoo had Malabar in the lead late in the first half.

City fought hard to equalise and were rewarded when Craig Minnie scored 20 minutes into the second half.

Priory Shamrocks were beaten 5-1 by Central Acemates. Anele Madosi, Lwazi Sahula (2), Fumanekile April and Malibongwe Sobikwa scored for Acemates.

Out at Londt Park, home team West Park thrashed Priory B 8-1.

Scorers for West Park were Trevor Jooste, Hayden Hannie, Lionel Terblanche, Arthur Chan King, Trent Jaggers, Stanton Freeman Carwyn Thomson and an own goal from Priory. Late in the second half, Dustin Stokes scored a cracker for Priory.
