Come Dine With Me South Africa is back for a fifth season and contestants from Port Elizabeth will bring their best cooking skills to the fore in the upcoming episode, airing on April 22.
The award-winning show follows the drama as four Bay strangers are wined, dined and entertained in each other’s homes in a bid to win the R10 000 cash prize.
Medical representative, Dane Emms, takes on game lodge manager, Tracy Weeks, data capturer, Chirene Bennett, and air traffic service officer, Jordin Brooks.
These contestants will cook up a storm and viewers can look forward to tattoos, tequila and a show filled with cooking skills and laughter.
During the first night, contestant Dane’s prep suffers a few early bumps in the road. However, she quickly recovers to put on a fantastic evening of fun, laughter and instant bonding – all you need to do is just add water… or tequila.
Dane will serve a smoked salmon tartare for starters, an Asian oxtail for mains and a crème brûlée to finish off.
Dane said, “Always add a little salt when you’re frying onions to prevent them from burning. When struggling to open a bottle because the lid is too tight, give it a bash or two on the counter and it will pop open easily.”
Game lodge manager, Tracy, will try to wow her guests during the second night of the cook-off. Clearly used to hosting, Tracy’s prep slides by without a hitch, with all the ladies in their private interviews swearing eternal loyalty and friendship to each other and enjoying their ‘girls only’ week of fun.
Tracy throws her entire pantry at the night, serving up a starter of an onion and brie cheese tartlets with a spekboom salad, slow roasted lamb shanks for mains and chocolate brownies with a tequila berry sauce for dessert.
The night kicks off with young air traffic expert, Jordin, shooting her first ever tequila and quickly vowing never again.
Tracy was asked what her biggest dinner party disaster was and she replied, “Dancing on my bar counter before even serving the main course.”
Night three falls to self-labelled “momster” and data capturer, Chirene, to host. An emotional self-penned song from Chirene (which gets everyone misty-eyed) makes for a packed evening.
Chirene delivers a good experience with her food and hosting, despite her inexperience, but is it enough to clinch the prize?
She will prepare a starter of mixed sliders, and for main a spinach and feta stuffed chicken breast served with couscous and gravy, including a dessert of a layered cheese cake with a Gin-Tastic twist.
Chirene was asked what the one thing is viewers would be shocked to know about her. She commented, “Most people are usually shocked to hear that I sing. Other than that, just stories of my young days having fun and being naughty.”
The final night belongs to young air traffic expert, Jordin, to host. Her solid prep leads to a hilarious night of fun, gifts, emotions, and a few faux pas.
To end the evening sky high, Jordin rustles up for her guests some impressive stuffed prawns for starters, a very hot knuckle curry with roti for their mains and it’s a caramel mousse for dessert.
Can the youngest of the four contestants take home the cash prize?
Jordin auditioned because she is a huge fan of Come Dine with Me.
She added, “It’s fun, vibrant, entertaining and fits my personality so well.”
The contestants’ bond around issues of girl-power and motherhood. It’s not exactly Kumbaya, but it’s close.
As well as Port Elizabeth, Come Dine With Me South Africa season five will visit Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
- The Port Elizabeth episode airs on Monday, April 22, at 20:00 on BBC BRIT (DStv channel 120). The episode will be repeated on Wednesday, April 24, at 21:00 and again on Saturday, April 27, at 19:00.
