A PORT Elizabeth-born model recently won the title of Miss Teen International Princess of RSA 2019 and qualified to represent South Africa at a prestigious international competition.
The 16-year-old, Tamarah Ajam, qualified for a spot on the ramp when she won a free entry by winning the Miss Teen Greenacres 2019 competition.
Tamarah fell in love with modelling two years ago, and has since competed in and won various modelling pageants.
“When I started modelling about two years ago, I instantly fell in love with it. At first, it was mainly to improve my confidence, but grew into one of my favourite things. Just being on stage and walking that ramp is so much fun.
“I’m just being myself when I’m up there and thoroughly enjoy every moment on stage,” she said.
She was also recently crowned senior overall winner in her age category at the Talent Africa event at the Opera House.
She won two gold medals for ramp modelling, eight certificates, a medal for being in the top 10, the overall senior model, first place in her age category – 15 to 17, second place for Senior Miss Talent Africa (judges choice) and an award for the best senior confidence.
In order to participate in the Talent Africa National Championships in 2019, Tamarah had to qualify at a regional event.
She said, “I also won first runner-up in Oktoberfest last year and Top Model for 2018. I’m so excited to have been selected to represent my country at Talent America.”
Tamarah is in Grade 12 at Alexander Road High and will be focussing more on her academics this year to study in the medical field.
“I’m planning on studying medicine next year. As far as my modelling career goes, if I was given the opportunity to take it further and do it professionally on the side, I’d do that in a heartbeat,” Tamarah said.
