Irish dancers from the McWilliams Academy in Gqeberha took part in the recent South African Irish Dancing Championships that were held in Johannesburg.
They impressed the three Irish judges, and the following six dancers qualified to compete at the Irish Dancing World Championships in Dublin, Ireland, in April 2025:
- Alison Rennie: South African Champion in the girls 12 years and underage group
- Shanna du Plessis: South African Champion in the girls’ 16 years age group
- Megan Walker: South African Champion in the ladies 17- and 18-years age group
- Mia Jonker: runner-up in the ladies’ 17- and 18-years championship
- Kate Erlank: 4th in the girls’ 12 years and under championship
- Em Wedderburn: 8th in the ladies’ 17- and 18-years championship
The junior dancers from the academy who had great results at Nationals were:
- Emma Erlank (4th) and Anja Visser (5th) – PC1 (7 years and under)
- Holly Fourie – the little ungraded dancer who brought home many gold ribbons
