AFTER months of dedication and training, the Unified Taekwon Do’s Phoenix Federation team from the Eastern Cape is ready to attend the Unified World Championships in Iguazu Falls, Brazil, from Friday, August 9 to Saturday, August 11.

The Unified Taekwon Do World Championships takes place every two years and countries from all over the world will be represented at this prestigious event.

Instructor Sabum-Nim Gerd Hummel (sixth degree) is also going to attempt his seventh degree (master) black belt grading, which can only be done through a panel of eighth degree masters and ninth degree grand masters.

Grand Master Karstadt, president of Unified Taekwon-Do (ninth degree) will be heading the grading for Hummel during his attendance at the Brazil World Championship.

Should Hummel pass his grading, it will make him the first master in Chang-Hon Taekwon-Do in South Africa.

Cleyvon Frank was the South African top performer in the 2015 tournament and will attempt to bring back more gold medals this year for his team.

The Phoenix team departed for Brazil on Monday, August 5.
